I mean the way your child reaches for your hand while walking somewhere new.

That’s what I want to photograph for you.
Just enjoy your trip. You don’t need to pose.
My approach to family photography is natural and documentary-style.
Of course, we’ll take a few beautiful photographs of everyone together and looking at the camera.
Those classic family portraits are important, too.
But for most of our time together, you don’t need to pose.
You don’t need to tell your children to smile.
You don’t need to wonder what to do with your hands.
Just enjoy being together.
Walk through Otaru.
Explore Yoichi.
Let your children run through the nature of Niseko.
Hold hands. Talk. Laugh. Pick them up when they’re tired. Stop when they discover something interesting.
I’ll quietly follow along and photograph what happens.

I don’t want your vacation to become a photoshoot.
I want the photoshoot to become a small part of your vacation.
Maybe I join your family while you explore Otaru.
Maybe we walk together during your time in Yoichi.
Maybe we meet somewhere in the beautiful nature around Niseko.
We don’t always need to find the “perfect” photo spot.
Because the most important thing in the photograph is already there.

Hi, I’m Yuka.
I’m a family photographer based in Yoichi, Hokkaido, and a mother of three boys.
I photograph families in Yoichi, Otaru, Niseko and the surrounding areas, including families visiting Hokkaido from overseas.
Being a mother has taught me that children don’t always follow the plan.
Sometimes they don’t want to smile.
Sometimes they want to run.
Sometimes they suddenly need to be carried.
That’s okay.
You don’t need to make your children behave perfectly for the photographs.
Let them be children.
I’ll photograph your family as you are.
Visiting Yoichi?
Yoichi is my home, a small town near Otaru and on the way toward Niseko.
You may be coming here to visit the Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery or including Yoichi as part of a road trip through Hokkaido.
If you’re spending time in the area, I’d be happy to photograph part of your family’s day.
We can choose a location that works naturally with your travel plans, while checking any photography rules or permissions that may apply.
Your photography session doesn’t need to feel like another appointment on your itinerary.
It can simply feel like part of your day.
“But we don’t speak Japanese…”
That’s okay.
And I should tell you something about me, too.
I’m learning English.
I’m not fluent yet, but international families are very welcome.
Before your session, we can communicate in English by message with the help of translation tools.
During the session, I use simple English, gestures and translation when we need it.
And honestly, my photography doesn’t need a lot of talking.
I won’t be giving you a new pose every few seconds.
Most of the time, I want you to forget about my camera and enjoy your family.
We’ll figure out the language together.
